Top Five Endangered Animals in Malaysia

Black Shrew
Nobody has the record of the actual size. It may be extinct already or still occupy a small area in the area of Sabah a state of Malaysia.
Sumatran Rhinoceros
Smallest rhino measuring about 250 centimetres in length and 120-145 centimeters tall (shoulder). The 2-horned rhino can normally be found in swamps and rainforests of Asian countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and India. These species is facing extinction due to the poaching of their horns.
Malayan Tapir
Malayan Tapir has a strange body colour which is normally mistaken as a large rock when lying down. A good camouflage for this creature. However, their numbers are fast declining due to their habitat loss and the hunt for their meat.

Mouse Deer
Better known as Sang Kancil in Malaysia's folklores, is a small creature about 70 centimeters long, 30-35 centimeters tall (shoulder), and around 5.8 kilograms in weight. Mouse deers can only be found in Malaysia, Borneo and parts of Indonesia.

Orang Utan
There are basically 2 species of Orang Utan, the critically endangered Sumatran species and also the endangered Bornean species. Both of these species could only be found in the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. The name Orang Utan is actually from a malay word which is Orang Hutan which means "forest man", due to the similarities with the human beings. Their number have been on a decline in the past few decades due to active logging activities and forest fires.

Jellyfish's New Impersonators

Floating plastic bags looks similar to a jelly fish.
With a leatherback's poor vision, a delicious jellyfish and a plastic bag look the same in the ocean.
Jelly fish is known as the Leatherback turtle's favourite food. But these days, the ocean is polluted with Plastic Bags. The bad thing is that, it kills marines life. Due to the similar physical appearance as the jelly fish, sea turtles oftentimes mistaken it as their favourite food and suffocate once consuming it. Leatherback turtles have been around for 100 million years, but if changes are not made for these turtles, they could be wiped out from the Pacific Ocean in just ten more years!

Animals get tangled in them causing them to suffocate and eventually die.

Let's Stop Using Plastic Bags!
Save the animals, save our planet!

Play Dress Up

They might look cute... But isn't the clothes and accessories getting in their way?
Few weeks back, my friends and I were discussing animal cruelty over Nasi Lemak and one of my friend, Syahira said isn't dressing up your pet such a cruel thing to do?! Making them wear clothes is just out of their nature!

This is not a nice sight!

Well, come to think about it, it's true. They're not dolls that you can play dress up with! Plus, RSPCA (Royal Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has said that with clothes, movement is restricted and it may 'overheat' the animals. Check out the video. RSPCA is threatening legal against people who dress up their dogs!!!

Jo Barr, RSPCA spokeswoman, said: "Dog owners should be aware that under the Animal Welfare Act that came into force in April 2007 has a duty of care to ensure that all of their pets' needs are met. One of those needs is to express normal behavior and it could mean that with restrictive clothing they are not able to do that properly. We're concerned that any pet should be viewed as a fashion accessory. Taking on an animal is a long-term commitment. It's quite humiliating and sends out the wrong message about pet care."

Is this really necessary?

Your New Hang Out Place!

Going out shopping with your friends over the weekend? Staying at home just playing games on your desktop? Being a couch potato at home? Are you nodding to any of these question?

Well, here's a suggestion! Why don't you help out in an animal shelter?! Volunteer yourself and help these poor abandoned animals.
Now some might think that volunteering in animal shelters is a dirty job, eg. cleaning cages which are full of poo and pee. But there are a lot of things to do in an animal shelter besides that. For instance, helping perspective clients (that want to adopt a pet) and helping with paperwork are some things that always need to be done.

Of course, the main reason most people, offer to volunteer is because they love animals and want to spend time with them. I started volunteering in animal shelters eversince my school's Leo Club organised a visit to SPCA Selangor back when I was in form 3. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves! Not only we were having fun exchanging jokes but also at the same time helping and spreading our love to these lovely animals. The joy you see in a dog while it's waggin' it's tail off makes you know that you just brighten his day. You will definitely leave the shelter feeling so good after a good deed.

So what are you waiting for?!
Check out the nearest animal shelter in your local directory or just google it!
Remember doantions of sorts are also appreciated!

POOR TREATMENT BEFORE CONSUMING THEM

Chickens! "Finger lickin good" the famous KFC slogan. Fried chicken is the best! Love it! But have you ever wonder how they are treated before being serve on a plate as a meal? Nobody ever gave it a thought.

The truth is, these animals suffer a great amount of PAIN during transportation and not to mention sometimes in their cages. Many chickens are injured in the process of transportation, suffering dislocated and broken hips, legs, and wings, as well as internal hemorrhages. As one researcher described, “Hip dislocation occurs as the birds are carried in the broiler sheds and loaded into the transport crates. Normally the birds are held by one leg as a bunch of birds in each hand. If one or more birds start flapping, they twist at the hip, the femur detaches, and a subcutaneous hemorrhage is produced which kills the bird. Dead birds that have a dislocated hip often have blood in their mouths, which has been coughed up from the respiratory tract. Sometimes this damage is caused by too much haste on the part of the catchers.”

Once the chickens are packed into crates and onto the trucks to the slaughter plant, they experience a very stressful, fearful, injures and even a fatal procedure (according to a group of researches). These chickens are not given food, water nor shelter from the extreme weather conditions while transportation.  Many chickens die during the trip from hypothermia or heart failure associated with the stresses of catching and transport.

Information taken from:-http://www.chickenindustry.com/cfi/broilerindustryreport/transportation/

Even PETA is going against McDonald for their cruelty on chickens! They had launch a campaign called McCruelty.  Check out their campaign page:- http://www.mccruelty.com/why.aspx

Here's a video to watch. Not only chickens are treated cruelly but also other animals that are slaughtered for their meat. For a clearer view of this video log on PETA's website. I found the video quite gruesome, couldn't finish it. Don't watch it if you can't handle the cruelty.

Check out this footage of "Ronald McDonald" (aka Andy Dick) talking about killing chickens and the cruelty behind Unhappy Meals during an interview with the legendary Jiminy Glick (aka Martin Short).

Is there a more humane way to treat these animals before they end up on our dining table? Can't we treat them better since they provide us their meat to eat?

SHARK FIN SOUP! YUM?

Hey Guys! Love shark's fin soup? Well, GUESS how many sharks are being killed each year for their fins?! 100 to 200 MILLION anually!!! The people who kill this sharks has no mercy at all! After chopping off the shark's fin, they are just dumped back into the ocean left to die.

Fins dried out under the sun before being processed

PLUS, it doesn't do any good for your health! You can dismissed all those crap about shark's fin soup being all good for the immune system, boost sexual potency, enhance skin quality, increase one's qi or energy, prevent heart disease, and lower cholesterol. Even to the extend where shark's fin is claim to prevent cancer! Studies has showed that all thses are false. Shark's fin has a lower content of vitamin is much less than vegetable oil.

If consumed in extremely large quantities, shark fin soup may cause sterility in men due to mercury content. The FDA(Food and Drug Administration) recommends pregnant women and young children avoid eating shark fins.

SO GUYS! STOP EATING SHARK'S FIN SOUP!
